As per the Buddhist mythology, it is a place where the great prince Semchen Chenpo had sacrificed himself to fulfil the hunger of a tigress. The hungry tigress had just given birth to her young cubs. She was unable to move because of hunger and weakness which was noticed by the great prince Semchen Chenpo. Unable to see the misery, the price scarified himself in front of the tigress and willingly became her food to revive her from hunger and weakness.
